When it rains, water running off our lawns and streets flows into storm drains — and from there, directly into our local waterways. Whatever it picks up along the way goes with it. Here are a few simple ways Encanto Real Utility District residents can help keep our streams clean.
Pesticides and herbicides can harm local waterways when they wash away in the rain. Follow label instructions, avoid applying before a storm, and use only what you need.
Pet waste contains nutrients and pathogens that pollute our water. Always clean up after your pet and dispose of waste properly.
Litter in our streets ends up in our streams. Secure your trash, pick up stray litter, and never sweep debris into storm drains.
Leaves and grass clippings may seem harmless, but when they decompose in storm drains, they release nutrients that feed harmful algae. Bag clippings, compost when possible, and keep yard waste off the street.
Small steps at home make a big difference downstream. Thank you for helping keep our community's waterways clean.
